IMO branding proposal

14.04.08

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialised agency of the United Nations. It has responsibility for the regulation of international shipping, in particular for the safety of life at sea and the prevention of marine pollution.

The IMO has never formally adopted a general graphics guidelines that might be considered equivalent to a corporate identity policy. A2 were invited to demonstrate how we would develop and implement a more comprehensive and consistent corporate identity over the medium to long term.

The IMO currently uses a bewildering number of identities in various layouts, type treatments and tones of blue.

To achieve a strong identity/brand it is necessary to be consistent in the application of the identity. A2 recommended reducing all applications of the identity to one, incorporating the standard United Nations blue.

The IMO also produces a number of publications every year. We recommended a unifying design system for all publications, reducing costs and production time. The books would be split into eight colour-coded themes, with typographic covers and secondary colours drawing from a pre-determined palette.
